Leslie Barnett

Owner, Psychotherapist

I am Leslie Barnett, MSW, LCSW, and I created Healing Connections Counseling to offer a quieter, more personal space for trauma healing. Since 2002, I have worked in community mental health, sitting with people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. My experience includes extensive work with complex trauma, suicidality, and long-standing emotional pain.

I draw on CBT, DBT, EMDR, Memory Reconsolidation, mindfulness, and narrative approaches so therapy fits you, not a program. Outside of session, I am a 52-year-old woman who loves dancing with friends, tending plants, spending time in nature, and hanging out with my cat, Ninja. I would be honored to walk alongside you.

My Journey Into Private Practice

I have been a practicing social worker since graduating with my Master's from LSU in 2002, becoming licensed in 2007, and spending nearly two decades serving individuals through community mental health. Over the years, I have witnessed hundreds of people heal and recover from a lifetime of trauma and turmoil, reaffirming my passion for this work. Opening my own private practice allows me to deliver therapy in the way I believe truly benefits the person served—guided entirely by your unique needs, pace, and goals rather than dictated by agency rules.

Therapeutic Philosophy And Core Beliefs

My work is grounded in a simple truth, none of us can do this alone. I see therapy as a respectful partnership where you can bring the good, the bad, and the painful without being judged or rushed. Recovery grows in a space that honors safety, consent, and your pace. Together, we focus on building understanding, skills, and hope so that change feels possible and sustainable in your everyday life.

An Integrative, Trauma-Informed Approach

The work I do in trauma therapy integrates EMDR, Memory Reconsolidation, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and narrative work. You might process specific memories with EMDR, practice DBT skills to ride out emotional waves, and use CBT and mindfulness tools to quiet shame and anxiety. I also draw on crisis experience, safety planning, and psychedelic-assisted therapy integration. Together, we choose what fits your history, values, and goals, so therapy feels focused, respectful, and useful beyond the session.

Seasoned Experience

Two decades in community mental health taught me to hold complex trauma with steady, compassionate presence.

Integrative Care

I thoughtfully combine EMDR, Memory Reconsolidation, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and narrative work to match your healing needs.

Advocacy & Safety

I stand beside you as a fierce advocate, prioritizing emotional safety, honest dialogue, and collaborative decision-making throughout therapy.
